In the middle of it

This piece is in the middle of the process, I could not wait to ink, this is why there is ink on the painting. I usually wait until all of the painting is comlpete. The background is just about finished, a couple of splashes of red to give it color and warmth. I still have a few layers on each of the glass pieces to bring out the contrast, but this is what a work in progress looks like.
Still Life
A still life I painted last quarter in class. There were several items on the table, and we sat in a semicircle around the table. I chose the Gallo Bottle, (because I love to paint reflective objects), the column, and flower which sat between them both. I felt that the painting (watercolor), would have been too static if I placed the objects vertically on the paper, so I tilted the whole piece to bring some life and movement.
For this painting I used:
Strathmore Watercolor cold press 140 lb. 11"x15".
Loew-Cornell #10 flat brush.
Staedtler #3 for the thin line work
Micron #8 for the heavier line work.
I started the painting with a sketch of the scene. With the background, I first layed down a thin layer of Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue with a #10 flat. While the background was drying, I started on the column. For the column, I layed down a lite layer of Cerulean Blue Hue for the shadow area. Next layed down several layers of gray (watered-down Black), letting each layer dry. With the rest of the column I left pure white, except of a few flashes of Cad yellow. I next added several layers of mixed varying amounts of Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, and Van Dyck Brown, Same with the bottle only not as many layer and a more diluted mixture. After the painting is fully dry, I then ink in the painting, and call it done.

Germany 2010
I find this years jersey, a bit too flashy for
I feel that most teams that participate in the 2010 World Cup in
I could go that road, and this is what Germany would get.
So In the spirit of no-flash-jersey, I designed this more reserved color pattern.
I used the eagle from the Deutsher Fussbal logo that

The Spirit of the World Cup
I don't know about you but it has been really exciting to watch the World Cup this year.I have been inspired by the a lot of the teams in the first round, namely Germany, Brazil, England. I am going to design jerseys for these teams, just for fun, for the next World Cup in 2010 to be played in South Africa.
The first is ENGLAND, and for his play today I chose Beckhams number. The design is somewhat simple, the way I like it, I chose the "Threee Lions" to be placed on the front spilling off to the right. I enjoy designing things with labels or emblems that are recognizable enough that if you don't see the whole image you still know what it is.
The bottom image is of thwe back with a simple crown symbolizing the Royalty in England.

Koi

I have always enjoyed the colors of the Koi. They have inspired me to create a few paintings. The koi can live many years, so I added the conji which means longevity in life.
For this one, I used watercolors and Colored pencils. For me I try to stay loose to reflect the feeling I was going for. I usually add pen and ink after the watercolor, but decided using an outline would destroy the feeling of being underwater.
Chuck Close Tribute
This is my tribute to Chuck Close, but in a much smaller version, 11"x14".This is one of three I did for a final assignment last year. I will post the others later.
I used 6B for the shadows 2B for the mid tones. I tried to keep the eye area as clean as possible, I wanted the eye to be the center of focus. The further away I got from the eye the less detail I used, so by the time I started on the ear there is almost no detail, just value changes.

Ordinary?
This is one of my photos of Las Vegas, I enjoy taking pictures of Vegas from unfamiliar angles and situations that most people are unacquainted with. I think this brings new life to an otherwise ordinary "vegas" shot. This particular shot was taken across the I 15 interstate looking from behind the "strip". I enjoy this shot because of the telephone pole and wires shooting across the shot, I think it says that Vegas is not all glamour and glits, but an ordinary city that just happens to have a bit of glamour, this is one reason for a daylight picture.
New York New York
Las Vegas, very unique, great inspiration for my painting and photography itch. I prefer to paint urban landscapes, I find the rugged and gritty atmosphere lends itself very well to the canvas and print.
This site will be devoted to the sharing of my art work, and the inspiration that helped spark the ideas behind my work.
This shot was taken for a class assignment "tourist Pictures". It is of the New York New York. I just could not bring myself to take a "tourist type picture". I tried to capture the energy of the strip with the diaganol placemnet of the buildings.
